  1.                   How the Homeless are Being Screwed
  2.  
  3.     Well, as some of you know for the past 2 or so months I have been
  4. homeless\Houseless\A Bum\etc....  I was living in a field that some of the
  5. other homeless folks in the area called "the Homeless Camp."  Actuall it
  6. was a large open field.  We were living, and sleeping, in the bushes behind
  7. the trees.
  8.     Next thing I have to tell you is what area I am in.  I live in southern
  9. California, Huntington Beach, to be exact.  The homeless population in this
  10. area consists of about 50 to 100 people, Over 45% of these people were
  11. living in our "Camp."
  12.     In the behining of March, Huntington Beach Police Department began to
  13. go back to camp and hassle the "tenants."  The wonderful treatment they
  14. gave us consisted of unjust searches, Confiscation of ANYTHING that could
  15. be considered a weapon, and things that one would steal.  This type of
  16. treatment is a regular thing.
  17.     Well, the end of March came around.  Caltrans (California Transit
  18. Authority) Came in and told us we all had 15 minutes to get our stuff and
  19. get out.  They also told us if we weren't out by this time we would be
  20. arrested for trespassing.  about five minutes after they had told us this
  21. anyone inside camp had guns pulled on them, By the police dept.  Almost all
  22. of our Clothing, Personal possesions, etc... was left behind.  That day
  23. they put all of our stuff into a pile and threw it into a large dumpster.
  24. A notice was posted "anyone caught inside the premises will be prosicuted."
  25.     This is what happened, I was there.  I didn't write this for any reason
  26. other than to inform people of this incident.  I don't want people to feel
  27. sorry for me, no sympathy bullshit.  I am almost off of the streets, as for
  28. the rest of the "campers", I don't know.  If you really wish to know, you
